Radioactive Substances
Registration Of Users
Requests for information held on the Public Register will be
responded to in line with the Department’s procedure for dealing with Requests for
Environmental Information .
The Environment Agency
is the enforcing Authority of the Radioactive Substances Act 1993
(as amended by the Environment Act 1995). They exercise control by
registering users of radioactive material and authorising
accumulation and disposal of radioactive waste.
As a Local Authority, we are required under this Act, to keep
information provided on a Public Register and in some cases be
consulted, by the Environment Agency. Due to a Direction under
Section 25 (1) of the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 on behalf of
the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
on 22nd March 2005 the registration of users is no longer available
on the web-site.
The type of information sent by the Environment Agency to
Wychavon includes the following categories;
- Copies of applications for registration as users;
- Copies of applications for authorisation to accumulate or
dispose of radioactive waste;
- Copies of certificates of registration and authorisation;
- Copies of revocation or variation to an authorisation or
registration; and
- Copies of any Enforcement Notices or Prohibition Notices served
by the Agency.
Public Register
Copies of this information are held on the Public Register, and
subject to the provisions of the Environmental Information
Regulations 2004, are available to view without charge, as a
paper document at the Civic Centre, Pershore. For legal reasons,
you must make an
appointment in advance to view the register.
Radioactivity in Food and the Environment
A report – Radioactivity in Food and the Environment (RIFE) 2008
can be viewed
here (3.49 MB) and the appendix here (263.14
KB). This report shows the results from the Environment Agency’s
monitoring of radioactivity in the environment carried out in
England and Wales during 2007, together with complimentary
monitoring of the food chain carried out by the Food Standards
Agency. This RIFE report also presents results from the
radiological monitoring programmes in other parts of the UK carried
out by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency and Scottish
Environment Protection Agency.
Electronic copies of all Radioactivity in Food and the
Environment (RIFE) reports 1-13 from 1995-2007 and Radioactivity in
the Environment 2000 and 2001 are available and may be requested
from Environmental Services at the Civic Centre. Copies of the
1999, 2000 and 2001 Environment Agency reports of Radioactivity in
the Environment and the 2002 and 2004 Radioactivity in Food and the
Environment (RIFE) reports are available to view at the Civic
Centre in Pershore as hard copies.
