Radioactive Substances

Registration Of Users

Requests for information held on the Public Register will be responded to in line with the Department’s procedure for dealing with Requests for Environmental Information .

The Environment Agency is the enforcing Authority of the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 (as amended by the Environment Act 1995). They exercise control by registering users of radioactive material and authorising accumulation and disposal of radioactive waste.

As a Local Authority, we are required under this Act, to keep information provided on a Public Register and in some cases be consulted, by the Environment Agency. Due to a Direction under Section 25 (1) of the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 on behalf of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on 22nd March 2005 the registration of users is no longer available on the web-site.

The type of information sent by the Environment Agency to Wychavon includes the following categories;

  • Copies of applications for registration as users;
  • Copies of applications for authorisation to accumulate or dispose of radioactive waste;
  • Copies of certificates of registration and authorisation;
  • Copies of revocation or variation to an authorisation or registration; and
  • Copies of any Enforcement Notices or Prohibition Notices served by the Agency.
