Planning Policy
The planning system in England and Wales is structured on
plan-led system to help control development in the area. Planning
Policy is about how we plan for, and make decisions about
development across Wychavon District.
Planning Policy prepare plans that set out what can be built and
where as well as policies to protect the natural and built
environment and deliver good design. This is in accordance with the
new Planning Act of Parliament - the Planning and Compulsory
Purchase Act 2004 and national planning policy which is set by
Communities and Local Government (CLG). Planning Policy Guidance
can be found on the
Communities and Local Government website.
Under 2004 Act, there are two main levels of plan:
- The Regional Spatial Strategy - The West
Midlands Regional Planning Body (comprising of representations from
local authorities within the region) prepares the Regional Spatial
Strategy and sets out what development and the type of development
is needed to meet the future needs of people in the West Midlands
region;
- The Local Development Framework is prepared by
the local planning authority and is a folder of documents that sets
out how the local area may change over the next few years. Further
information about this can be found under the Local
Development Framework section.
The Planning Policy section is currently involved in preparing
the following documents:
