Come
Dancing
Wychavon District Council is inviting
residents to come dancing, thanks to a series of new and exciting
dance classes.
Led by the counties dance development agency,
Dancefest, the dancing project known as ’12 Moves’, will offer
classes in street, contemporary and ballroom dancing over the
summer holidays.
The classes will be taking place at Wallace
House, Oat Street in Evesham (10, 17 & 24 August
11am-12.30pm), Pershore Riverside Centre (17, 24 August 1.30-3pm),
and Ferry View Older People’s home, Merstow Green, Evesham (10
August 2-3.30pm).
Thanks to support from the Health Improvement
Fund, Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council,
’12 Moves’ aims to get young people taking part in positive
activities and also improve the fitness of more senior residents in
Wychavon.
Dance classes will continue into the autumn
and through to spring 2011 at places such as Honeybourne Youth
Club, Ourside Youth Club, St Egwin’s Middle School and Prince
Henry’s School, and the classes will continue to provide a wide
range of dance styles to choose from.
In 2011, there will be more classes and
opportunities to perform, such as ‘Flashmobs’ – this is where
dancers suddenly begin performing out in the open amongst a
surprised and unsuspecting general public. See http://www.flashmob.co.uk/.
Then in the run up to the 2012 Olympic and
Paralympic Games, Worcestershire will stage a site specific video
installation performance that will use local dancers and live
performance to bring people out onto the streets and see dance on
plasma TVs, shop windows, buildings and architectural
structures.
Jenny Davis, Wychavon’s Arts Development
Officer, said: “I am very excited about this opportunity. We
hope to get hundreds of people who have never danced before to try
something new and have a go at dancing. Hopefully they will have
fun and get fit at the same time. What’s also really great is that
the groups that get involved might be inspired to continue to dance
long after the Olympics have come and gone, which means more dance
in Wychavon.”
If you want to know how you can attend any of
the dance classes then please contact the venues directly or
contact Jenny Davis, Arts Development Officer, on 01386
