Council tax scam uncovered

Residents in South Worcestershire (Malvern Hills, Worcester and Wychavon) are being warned to be extra vigilant after reports that scamsters have attempted to gain bank details and pin numbers over the phone by telling residents they’re entitled to a council tax refund.

Jean Mann, Revenues Manager for South Worcestershire said “We want to warn residents not to give out their bank details or pin to anyone, especially regarding council tax. For refunds we will put information in writing and would never ask for residents pin numbers.”

Councils have contacted the police to advise them of the incident.
