Evesham Leisure Centre wins award

Evesham Leisure Centre

The new Evesham Leisure Centre has won a prestigious award in recognition of the quality of its construction.

At the recent Wychavon Building Design Awards, Evesham Leisure Centre was the winner in the Community Architecture category.

In entering the awards, some of the leisure centre’s strengths were highlighted as being its striking use of colour, forms and contrasting material, all of which has helped the new leisure centre stand as a landmark development for the town.

Sited against the sensitive backdrops of the Bell Tower one way and the River Avon the other, the building’s design respects but does not compete with these features.  Internally, form follows function with the intelligent use of light and space.

The judges commented: “This much needed facility will be a fantastic resource for the town, further enhanced by the very visible and tactile use of materials and forms, both inside and out.  These all help to create a new place of distinct character.”

Councillor Tom McDonald, Executive Board Member for Leisure, Culture and Regeneration, said: “The building of the new Evesham Leisure Centre is part of the Council’s long-term commitment to provide facilities that will help improve the health and well-being of the people of Evesham and the surrounding area.  We’re delighted and proud that the efforts of everyone involved in this project have been acknowledged in this way.”

Mark O'Shea, Head of Operations from Wychavon Leisure, who operate the facilities, said: "We are proud to work in partnership with Wychavon District Council in the running of this exciting new leisure centre."

Facilities at Evesham Leisure Centre include a 25m swimming pool, a studio pool with moveable floor to change depth for aqua aerobics or swimming, Rivers Fitness Room featuring over 100 stations of the very latest exercise equipment, a 4 court sports hall, a climbing wall, 2 exercise studios, a health suite with 2 spa pools, sauna and steam rooms, Rivers Health and Beauty and Café Rivers.

Opening Hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 10.30pm, Saturday 8am to 7pm and Sunday 8.30am to 7pm.
