Youth Zone opens to more young people
Spa Youth Zone is launching new sessions for
11 – 13 year olds. The High Street facility has proved very
popular with 13 -17 year olds, with over 200 using it each
week. It offers a place for young people to meet with friends
in a safe environment, participate in projects, gain volunteering
experience and get help and advice on issues affecting their
lives. Facilities include chill out areas, TV, music deck,
gaming, pool table, computer suite, art and music activities, games
and refreshments.
The new sessions for 11 – 13 year olds are in
response to regular requests from young people in this age group
who regularly turn up but aren’t old enough for the main
sessions. They will also have somewhere to go when they meet
up with friends in town. The new sessions will take place on
Fridays 4 – 6pm and Saturdays 2 – 4pm. The sessions will
offer opportunity to chill out with friends, play games, watch TV
and participate in projects to raise awareness of ‘life as a
teenager’. The young people will be expected to follow the
Youth Zone ‘code of conduct’ and the sessions will be run by youth
workers along with volunteers.
The new service will be launched on Saturday
13th February 2 – 4pm giving opportunity for the
youngsters and their parents to call in, look around and have a
chat with staff.
Spa Youth Zone is also looking for more
volunteers to assist with running both the 11 -13 and 13 – 17
sessions and would be pleased to hear from anyone who might be
interested in helping.
Rob Mace, Spa Youth Zone Manager, said: “We
are pleased to be expanding our service to offer sessions for this
younger age group.”
He added: “We know they like to meet up in
town and Spa Youth Zone is an ideal place for them to chill out
with friends in a safe environment and participate in fun
activities.”
