Youth Bus is ready to roll
Wychavon District Council’s Youth Bus has a
stunning new look and is ready for young people to climb aboard and
have some fun.
With its sleek black lines and cool pop art
style graphics, the Youth Bus will have games consoles, music
decks, laptops, Wi-Fi internet access and chill-out areas.
The Youth Bus also has its own extendable
outside awning - for when the summer arrives, has all the equipment
you could possibly need for sports coaching sessions, and has lots
of information for young people on employment, education and health
related issues.
The Youth Bus will be driven and supervised by
trained and experienced youth workers, in order to make sure the
young people on the bus get the most out of all of the facilities
on board.
The refurbishment of the bus, which was
carried out over Christmas and early in January this year, was made
possible largely thanks to a £30,000 grant from the West Mercia
Criminal Justice Board.
Now that it’s finished, the Youth Bus will go
out to visit the young people in our more rural villages - the
kinds of places where public transport and social activities are
limited. The Youth Bus is going to be a place where young
people can hang out and have fun with their friends, play computer
games, use the internet, listen to music, and get advice and
guidance from a range of support agencies on issues affecting
them. Basically the Youth Bus will be a place for them to
have a great time with their mates and be safe off the streets.
Rob Mace, Spa Youth Zone Manager, said: “The
Youth Bus has certainly come a long way since we bought it early
last year and began the initial work of making it road
worthy. We can’t wait to get it out around the villages so
that young people have a place to go and have some fun.”
