Brine Baths Plans under discussion

Following a recent announcement by B.M.I. Healthcare that they are prepared to consider the possible refurbishment and re-opening of the Droitwich Spa Brine Baths on a leasehold basis, representatives from Wychavon District Council, SOBBS, (Save Our Brine Baths group), local health groups and potential investors recently met to discuss the potential for developing new brine facilities on the current site at Droitwich Spa’s private hospital. As a result it has been agreed that further discussions will take place and a business plan will be developed.

“A lot of work is required to be done before we will know if a viable option is available, however, I am impressed by the expertise and enthusiasm that has come together and we will give this new opportunity every consideration.” said Councillor Tom McDonald, Wychavon’s Executive Board member for Economic Development, Skills and Transport.

William Moy chairman of S.O.B.B.S. who was present at the meeting said “After a long wait it would now appear that there is a reasonable possibility that our treasured brine baths may now be resurrected. I’m very grateful to B.M.I. for giving us this opportunity and thankful for the full support of Wychavon’s Councillor Tom McDonald and Phil Merrick, Head of Community Services.”

Mr Moy went on to say “If this plan is successful, S.O.B.B.S. are prepared to look into the possibility of setting up a trust fund to support the running of the operation.”

Discussions are set to continue as early as this week in order to move the project along as swiftly as possible.
