Committee meet in 1930’s style

Wychavon’s Overview and Scrutiny (O&S) meeting will take place at the newly refurbished Regal Cinema in Evesham on 24 January at 4.15pm.

The meeting will provide the committee with an opportunity to hear, and see, how Lumiere spent the £150k loan from Wychavon as well as hearing the future plans for The Regal. The Committee will receive a private tour of the facilities now on offer after the massive investment in Evesham’s formally derelict 1930’s art deco cinema and will then receive a detailed presentation focussing on the refurbishment as well as the future plans for The Regal.

Cllr. Andy Dyke, Chair of O&S said “We have on occasions taken our meetings out to specific venues to get more community involvement or where we’ve had a particular topic area that lends itself to a specific location. We’ve decided to take the next meeting to The Regal so that members of the committee can hear from the management of the cinema first hand of their hard work and see how they have used the loan from the council to help contribute to restoring The Regal to its former glory.”

Emma Heathcote-James spokesperson for The Regal said “We hope that members only need to look around them during the meeting to see what their loan has, in part, enabled us to so sympathetically restore. This really will be a meeting with a difference as members sink into our big swivel chairs and sit at our round linen clad candlelit tables in the stalls, with our beautiful art deco ceiling and delicately painted walls enveloping them into an environment that is hard to second - the only thing missing will be a glass of wine and a film! I am sure everyone will proudly stand beside us to say we really have something special here for Evesham and the county to be totally and utterly be proud about"

As with all council meetings O&S is open to the public who are warmly welcomed, however space is limited and anyone wishing to attend should contact Will Wade on 01386 565429 or email william.wade@wychavon.gov.uk

by January 23rd. Questions to the committee are always welcomed but must be submitted by 2.15pm on 24 January – questions can be sent membersupport@wychavon.gov.uk
