Microchipping

What is microchipping?

Microchipping is a popular and permanent form of identification that can't accidentally slip off like the traditional collar and tag

The device provides dog owners with enormous peace of mind. If pets become lost or stolen they provide an easy way of identifying them.

A microchip is inserted under the dog's skin between the shoulder blades. The microchip company keep the owner's contact details. When they come across a lost dog, Dog Wardens, vets and the rescue kennels check for the microchip. They have scanning equipment that detects the chip and displays the microchip's unique number. They can then contact the microchip number and get the owner's contact details. Please note, though, that z collar and identification tag is still required to be worn, by law. The microchip is just meant as a back-up should the collar and tag be absent for whatever reason.

Microchips are now a popular way of identifying dogs and last a lifetime.

Where can I get my pet microchipped?

Sometimes we hold microchipping surgeries in our Community Contact Centres at Evesham and Droitwich Spa or the Civic Centre, Pershore. Check below for future dates.

Alternatively you can go to one of the Dogs Trust centres in Wickhamford, Evesham or Kenilworth or a local veterinary surgeon.

Is it free?

This service is only available free of charge to OAPs and to people on benefits* if your pet is microchipped at one our Community Contact Centres or at one of the Dogs Trust centres. Prices may vary if you pet is microchipped through your local vets.
