Wychavon District Council's Arts Development are involved in many interesting and exciting things:

A Window on the Arts

Arts workshops have been taking place in Droitwich’s youth clubs in connection with the Art in Empty Shops project thanks to some funding from Droitwich Spa Area Partnership and Wychavon District Council. Droitwich Youth Zone, Westlands Youth Club, Droitwich Youth House and Fernhill Heath have been visited by artist Sarah Edwards and have created some great work that will be part of the second phase of the exhibitions in the empty shops.

The next round of exhibitions have started and will be running until 2nd August. Dodderhill School are now exhibiting some of their GCSE students work and textiles, the youth club’s project will follow on from this and Sarah James, poet and artist will exhibit her work to finish. All of the exhibitions can be found at the old Beaubelles shop in St. Andrews Square Shopping Centre, Droitwich Spa.

Wychavon District Council, For Droitwich Spa, Droitwich Arts Network, St Andrews Square Shopping Centre and Droitwich Spa Area Partnership have worked together to make this happen. The partnership wants to raise the profile of the arts and educate children and young people at the same time through the workshops. It also wants to enliven the town, particularly in these hard economic times and make Droitwich Spa more attractive.

We want to know what you think about the workshops, exhibitions and this project so you can feed back to us via the Wychavon District Council's Community Development blog http://www.wychavon.gov.uk/

We are also looking for artists that would like to get involved in the organisation of the exhibitions so if there is anyone that would like to volunteer for this contact Jenny Davis on 01386 565396 or email jenny.davis@wychavon.gov.uk

Vale Arts Trail

comm dev-vale arts trail logo

Vena (Vale of Evesham Network of Artists) with the support of Wychavon District Council organised a Vale Arts Trail, which was a month long visual arts festival in and around Pershore, Evesham and Broadway from 3rd-31st October 09. It was the first of its kind in the area, to purely focus on the visual arts and crafts. The Vale Arts Trail had exhibitions in galleries, open studios, libraries, gardens, parks, shops, cafes, churches and community centres around the vale. They were from a range of local artists and arts groups, both amateur and professional in painting, photography, crafts and sculpture.

Two free ‘Big Draw’ events also took place which is the national initiative to get people drawing. One was at the launch event on Sat 3rd October at Pershore High School.

There was a fantastic community programme along side it for children, young people, adults and older people. Workshops included sessions on John Sargeant, Halloween themed crafts, how to get the best out of your digitial camera, make your own portraits and using collage to create stories. Also, there was a talk from Ian Gibson in connection to his exhibition at Number 8. There was also two free ‘Walk and Talks’, a guided tour of Evesham and Pershore’s exhibitions.
