Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs)
A Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) is a multi-agency
partnership involving key ‘stakeholders’ in a particular area,
often defined by a local authority’s boundaries. Typically a LSP
consists of public, private, voluntary and community organisations
working together to meet local needs and improve social,
environmental and economic well-being in a particular area. Most
community strategies are prepared by LSPs.
LSPs are usually set up and guided by, but not ‘owned’ by, a
local authority. And they often act as an ‘umbrella’ for other
existing partnerships and groups.
LSPs in Wychavon
We’ve taken an innovative approach to LSPs in Wychavon because
we recognise that a ‘one size fits all’ LSP for the whole of the
district would not work here. Our three area based
LSPs (659.06 KB) are each centred around one of the main
towns and the surrounding rural areas.
The Evesham and Pershore Area LSPs started life as Market Town
Partnerships, with a significant amount of funding from the
national Market Towns Programme to spend on regeneration projects.
We set up the Droitwich Area LSP from scratch, as this part of
the district wasn’t eligible for Market Towns funding and didn’t
have an equivalent partnership already in place. All three
LSPs have a strong track record of delivering projects that improve
quality of life for residents. Priorities and actions from
the LSPs’ action plans feed into the community strategy.
With the primary focus of our LSPs on local delivery, the
Wychavon Strategic Partnership takes a more strategic and
co-ordinating role. It is responsible for preparing the
community strategy and managing
progress against the actions in it. It also provides a
vehicle for partners to discuss joint approaches to more strategic
issues and build links with the county LSP, the Worcestershire
Partnership.
Dates and times can be viewed in the programme of meetings.
