Shaping The Future Together Launch Event

On 2 October the movers and shakers of the Wychavon district got together at Number 8 Community Arts Centre in Pershore for the launch of ‘Shaping the future together’ the new Wychavon Community Strategy.

The Chair of the Community Plan Core Group, Cllr Audrey Steel, opened the event.  She said the venue was a fantastic example of what can be achieved when people get together, set a clear vision and work hard to turn it into reality.  Audrey outlined the six themes of the new Community Strategy, which are:

  • Communities that are safe and feel safe
  • A better environment - for today and tomorrow
  • Economic success that is shared by all
  • Improving health and well-being
  • Meeting the needs of children and young people
  • Stronger communities: covering a range of issues including, housing, inclusion, leisure, culture and transport.

Delegates watched a specially commissioned DVD showcasing some of the successful partnership projects already happening in the district.  People then moved into smaller ‘Discovery’ group sessions to hear in more detail about some of the LSP projects featured on the DVD, including the ‘Hothouse’ affordable warmth project, the Agender businesswomen’s group and ‘Walking your way to health’ initiatives.  Sessions on the South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy and taking action on climate change were also on offer.

At 2pm partners physically signed up to the shared priorities from the Community Strategy on a large metre square board, making a very visual display of their commitment to the Wychavon area, its residents and businesses.

The Chief Executive of Worcestershire Primary Care Trust (PCT), Paul Bates, closed the event and underlined the PCT's commitment to the strategy and the Wychavon LSPs.
