Chairman of Wychavon District Council 2012/2013
At the Annual General Meeting of Wychavon District Council on 15
May 2012 Cllr
R J Morris was elected as Chairman
of the Council for the ensuing year.
Cllr Morris' charities for the year will be Wychavon
Cadets, Young Carers and St Richard's Hospice.
Biography of Councillor Richard Morris
Richard has been a Town Councillor in
Droitwich Spa for the last 12 years and a Wychavon District
councillor for the last 5. He represents the Droitwich South East
ward along with Cllr Ken Jennings.
Richard was Mayor of Droitwich Spa in 2005/6
and 2007/8. In his first period of Mayor he ran the Lido working
group which worked with Wychavon in moving plans forward to reopen
the Lido – in 2010 he also set up the Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido
(FODSL). He also set up the Droitwich Youth action group which is
still running to this day and it was under this group that the
Youth Zone, which is now based at the British Legion, was
developed.
In his second period as Mayor Droitwich
suffered some of its worst floods in history. Richard, along with
the Droitwich Rotary club and Lions club presidents, set up a Flood
fund which helped many of those who suffered in the floods.
In 2009 Richard took redundancy from a Footsie
100 company and, due to this experience, set up ‘Start all over
again’ a free voluntary group to help business professionals across
Worcestershire who are made redundant – the group has supported
well over 100 people.
Richard has since retrained and now works as a
Lecturer in a nearby college.
Until recently Richard was a board member for
Spa Housing but still represents Wychavon District council on the
board of Wychavon leisure. He is also presently President of the
Droitwich branch of the British Legion.
Whilst Chairman of Wychavon District Council
Richard will look to support 3 Charities: The Cadet units across
Wychavon, Young Carers and St Richard’s Hospice. In his time as
Mayor of droitwich Richard has supported all 3 areas. He supported
the Air and Army Cadets in Droitwich and then served on the
Management committee of the Air Cadets for a while. His interest in
Young carers was started by serving for sometime as a Trustee of
the Worcestershire Carers group and St Richard’s hospice, he was
fortunate to be there when they dug the first turf for the building
of St Richard’s in Wildwood way. He has seen over time the great
work they do and has sadly seen too many friends and colleagues
need their wonderful support.
Richard’s Mother was his mayoress both times
he was Mayor in Droitwich but sadly she passed away 18 months ago.
Whilst Chairman of Wychavon his main consort will be his brother:
David J Morris
