Equal Opportunities in Employment Policy Statement
Wychavon District Council has a positive equal opportunities
policy both as an employer and in its provision of services.
The aim of the policy is to ensure that no job applicant or
employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of sex,
race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, age,
disability, marital status, sexual orientation, social class,
responsibility of dependants, trade union or political activities,
religious beliefs, spent offences or is disadvantaged by any
conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be
justified.
This principle will apply to selection, training, promotion,
transfer, pay, benefits, procedures and all terms and conditions of
employment,
The Council will also make use of the Disability Discrimination
Act 1995 which allows for initiatives to encourage
under-represented groups to apply for posts and for specific
training where appropriate.
It will seek to encourage all external employers to apply the
principles of the Race Relations Act 1976, Sex Discrimination Act
1975 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 to all work
undertaken for the Authority.
As regards the provisions of services such as planning, housing
and engineering, community services, the Council will take positive
action to ensure that all requests by recipients of any service are
treated equally. Policies and procedures will be designed so as not
to discriminate intentionally or unintentionally against any group
or individual on any unjustifiable grounds. The Council will also
seek to respond to any special needs experienced by particular
groups.
The Authority will ensure implementation of this policy by
regularly reviewing effectiveness.
Any employee who feels that they may have a complaint under this
policy should raise the matter in accordance with the Council's
agreed Grievance Procedure. Applicants for employment who feel that
they may have grounds for complaint should write to the Personnel,
