Wychavon’s Environmental Services team can provide free advice
and information on a range of subjects relevant to business. We
have access to a range of information sources and can point you
towards relevant websites quicker than Google!
Advice can be needed for a variety of reasons:
Diversification and expansion
We know that as costs rise and customers reduce their spending,
many businesses think about adding another dimension to their
business. Garden Centres open cafes and local shops think about
making sandwiches for the lunchtime trade or stocking wine and beer
for Christmas!
Different ways of doing the same thing
To reduce costs you may be thinking of a change to your
processes or procedures. We can talk through those ideas with you
and advise whether they meet the requirements of various laws.
Move to new premises
On a more positive note you may be in a business sector that is
expanding, and be looking for new premises. We can help you decide
if they are suitable.
Health and safety concerns
We know that the media are very good at scaremongering and
creating health and safety myths (see www.hse.gov.uk/myth/index.htm
for more information on the HSE’s ‘Saving lives not stopping them’
campaign). We can help to sort the myths from the truth and help
you to identify your health and safety priorities.
Change of ownership
Sadly businesses do go into receivership and business
proprietors die. Acting quickly (especially in the area of alcohol
licensing) can save further problems and costs in the future (see
our Licensing Act 2003 fact sheet ‘Licensing Emergencies’ for more
information).
Improvement
Every caterer in Wychavon is now part of our
scheme to publish risk scores to the public (known as Scores on
Doors schemes). If you would like further advice on improving your
star rating we are happy to provide it (scores can be seen on
www.wychavon.gov.uk/scores for every caterer inspected since April
2007).
