Decent Homes

The Government is committed to ensuring that every social sector tenant will be living in a decent home by 2010. It is also committed to increasing the proportion of private sector vulnerable households living in decent homes.

A decent home is one which:

  • Does not contain a Category 1 Hazard
  • Is in a reasonable state of repair
  • Has reasonably modern facilities and services
  • Provides a reasonable degree of thermal comfort.

Further detailed guidance and definitions can be found on the Communities and Local Government web pages:

Ensuring that every social sector tenant will be living in a decent home by 2010

To deliver and meet this standard by 2010, local Housing Associations have developed their own investment strategy to improve homes and monitor progress. Currently all our major Housing Associations are on target to meet the 2010 deadline.

If you are a resident of a social landlord please contact your Housing Association for further information on improvement programs.

Increasing the proportion of private sector vulnerable households living in decent homes

A recent stock survey showed that we already exceed the Governments target but are continuing to support vulnerable households through our Housing Grants and Energy Efficiency Measures
