Guidance Notes for Completing the Application Form
Your application form plays an important part in our recruitment
and selection process. Based upon the information you provide, we
make a decision on whether or not you will be shortlisted for
interview. Before completing the application form, please read all
the information which is relevant to the post you are applying
for.
The Application Form
The Job Description and Person
Specification
Please study these documents carefully. The Job
Description details the duties of the post, whilst the Person
Specification lists the skills, knowledge, qualifications and
experience required.
Rough Draft
If you first write your
application in draft it will avoid mistakes and repetition and
ensure the final version is well organised, well presented and
relevant.
Education Training and
Qualification
Ensure that you list all your relevant
qualifications and training details, especially those specific to
the post. You will be asked to provide certificates if you
are selected for interview.
Employment / Work Experience
When listing employment history, please ensure dates are correct
and in the right order. Identify skills, knowledge and
experience relevant to this job. Please include details of
any community, voluntary or unpaid work that has equipped you with
additional skills.
Additional Information
This section allows you to demonstrate why you are a suitable
candidate for this post. Try to support your application with
details of the experience, skills and benefits you can bring to the
Council, it is helpful if you are able to include examples.
If you use extra page(s), please ensure that you clearly
number them and include your name.
References
It is important to include full
details of two responsible people who are able to comment on your
suitability for this post. If you have been employed, one
should be your present or most recent employer. The referees
you give must be able to cover the last three years of your
