Women’s Aid is a UK Charity, which specialises in supporting women and children experiencing domestic abuse. They also campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse and play a part in influencing government policies and investment.
Another definition is: -
“Any incident, of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults, aged 18 and over, who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.
Family members are defined as mother, father,
son, daughter, brother, sister and grandparents, whether directly related, in laws or stepfamily”.

Domestic abuse is a crime. The Police are part of a multi agency partnership, to prevent and reduce domestic abuse, and to protect the lives of adults and children. They investigate all reports of domestic abuse and take effective action against the perpetrators, so they can be held accountable through the criminal justice system.
