If I think someone may be experiencing domestic abuse – what can I do?

Friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues are often aware of, or suspect that domestic abuse is happening, but may be reluctant to get involved. We are all responsible for doing what we can to help and ensuring people do not live in fear. You may be the first or only person that a victim may have spoken to, so please respect this.

If someone confides in you that they are experiencing abuse. You should….

  • Be understanding
  • Be supportive
  • Let the person make their own decision
  • Ask if they need medical help and if they want to report it to the Police

This could include ringing 999 in an emergency, ringing Worcestershire’s Free Phone 24-hour Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0800 980 3331 and/or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 to report concerns, and gain advice to appropriately direct people to the support they need.

You will not regret ringing, but may regret not ringing or asking advice - call us today
