Anyone can experience domestic abuse.
Regardless of race, ethnicity, religious group, class, sex, disability or lifestyle, every day many people are victims of abuse.
Research shows that although women most commonly experience domestic abuse perpetrated by men, many men also experience abuse. Domestic abuse can also take place in lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender relationships, and involve other family members, including children.

- 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime
- Two women a week are murdered by their ex or current partner in the UK
- Every 60 seconds the police receive a phone call regarding domestic abuse
- Domestic abuse accounts for between 16% and one quarter of all recorded violent crime
- Nearly 90% of domestic abuse is witnessed or heard by children
- Domestic abuse often starts and excalates during pregnancy
- Someone may endure 37 assaults before they attempt to seek help
