Street Parties and fetes are a traditional part of community life and are a simple way for us to get to know our neighbours and meet members of the community.
This summer there will be two requirements for groups wanting to hold small events: they must have community approval and make appropriate arrangements for diverting traffic.
I want to organise a Street Party – what do I do?
- Talk to the neighbours and find out whether there is sufficient support for the event to go ahead
- Plan early, think about what you want to achieve.
- Find a suitable venue. It may be possible to hold the party in the street, local playing field, open space or adjacent to a building such as a community hall (you will need to ask the owners for permission).
- Once you know the neighbours are happy you will need to set a date
- Fill out the form below which gives WDC information about your event and also allows you to apply for a road closure (or a temporary Traffic Diversion Order as it is known). Please note road closures are your responsibility to manage e.g signage, diversions etc
- Make sure there are enough people to help organise and clean up after the event. You will be responsible for keeping the local area clean and tidy. Let people know what time the party will finish and have a section set aside for bin bags and recycling
- Although there is no legal requirement to provide risk assessments for a private street party, the council needs to be satisfied that you are addressing any significant risk resulting from your event. If your event has a sporting and cultural themed element to it you may benefit by registering your event as a Community Games.

Larger Public Events
When planning a public event you have to think of everything so to help your event planning to run smoothly download an document Event Management Plan template and Guidance notes (52 KB)
If your event has been advertised to the public making it a more large scale event then there will be more conditions. For instance if you are proposing to hold a party that will involve the sale of alcohol or provide entertainment to the wider public like live music (live band) or recorded music (disco) then you will need to apply to Wychavon for a Temporary Event Notices (TEN). The fee is £21.00 and the notice must be received by Wychavon a minimum of 10 working days (2 weeks) before the event is due to take place.
You will need to fill out a Temporary Road Closure Orders

Licensing - A licence is not normally needed if you plan to provide alcohol for free at your event. You don't need a music licence, whether the music is live or pre recorded, as long as:
- Your street party is a private party for residents
- the music has not been advertised in advance to attract people or make money
A food register will be required if you plan to use caterers.
