The Rural Communities programme (RCP) has been running for three years in Wychavon and for the past two years in Malvern Hills District. In that time the project has worked with over 30 parish and town councils and made over 800 referrals to services for vulnerable residents in rural areas.

Since its inception the RCP has taken the lead in this project work, talking to Parish Councils, arranging and delivering door knocks and feeding back to the communities of key issues found.

We will work with parishes to help to define possible New Homes Bonus (NHB) projects that will both meet real community need and, where possible, leave a legacy. This will involve helping the parish councils to engage with their communities and will then help to define projects. The RCP will also provide help to parishes to identify strengths, areas for improvement and community needs. This will likely involve a mix of methods including a parish profile, reviewing existing information such as parish or neighbourhood plans, surveys, facilitated sessions with parish councils and community leaders using a revamped version of our village health check or potentially some limited door knocks.
