Wychavon District Council is funding a new 12 week ‘Feeling Fitter’ programme in Droitwich, aimed at people who are inactive but generally in good health and who feel motivated to be more active.
To begin with there will be a drop-in information session about the programme on Saturday 7 July at 2pm at Westlands Community Hall – at this session people will be able to get more information and see if they meet the criteria for joining the programme.
For those who meet the criteria, the programme will then start on Thursday 12 July at 2pm at Westlands Community Hall.
As part of the programme there will be regular monitoring of weight, blood pressure, BMI, hip/waist ratio, activity levels and wellness so that participants can track their progress and see how well they’re doing.
There will be incentives of free activities at Droitwich Leisure Centre for those who complete four consecutive sessions, and for those completing at least seven sessions – as well as completing the baseline six and 12 week measures – there will be a free 12 week membership of Droitwich Leisure Centre.
Councillor Gerry O’Donnell, the portfolio holder for health improvement across the district, said: “This programme is just one of the activities we’re organising in order to live up to our council goal to help people be healthy, active and supported. The whole programme itself is free to people who are inactive but would benefit from an exercise based programme of activity. Places are limited so we recommend that people come along on Saturday 7 July to see if they’re eligible and then sign-up to the programme from the start.”
To find out if you qualify for the programme, or for further information, people can also contact Nigel Grundy at Droitwich Leisure Centre on 01905 771212.
For those with health conditions, there is the Activity Referral option at Droitwich Leisure Centre, which can be accessed via a referral from GPs and Practice Nurses.
In addition, for those wanting a gentler start to physical activity, the Westlands Walkers group meets every Wednesday at 9.15am outside WANDS.
