Back Wychavon Youth Bus awarded £2,000 to fund DJ project

The Wychavon Youth Bus has successfully been awarded £2,000 through the Tesco Community Bags of Help Scheme.

The project came second as voted for by Tesco customers and has been granted the funds for a new music project on the bus.

'Mixed up! DJ Skills for young people' will offer free DJ tuition classes to young people in rural areas throughout 2019.

Young people can directly book places and receive four free lessons to get them started on the decks and learn how to mix music. The first session took place at Pershore College last week.

Bags of Help is Tesco's local community grant scheme where the money raised by the sale of carrier bags is used to fund thousands of projects in communities across the UK.

Students met Lindsay Roach, the Evesham Tesco Community Champion, to receive the cheque for the project.

She said: "Tesco Evesham value the connections with local community groups and charities. Bags of Help is a great way to involve the whole community in helping projects in Evesham and the surrounding villages".

Lucy Rowlett, Sports and Social Co-ordinator at Pershore College, said: "It is great news for the students as they love the bus and they love music, we can now bring the two together and are getting lots of interest!"

Rob Mace, Wychavon's Youth Bus Officer, said: "We're really grateful of the support from Tesco as we can offer something new on the youth bus. We have relied on external funding grants since we first launched in 2009 and it's fantastic that we can help young people learn new skills and get creative with music".
