Free parking on offer as light switch on events return

Free parking will be on offer in Wychavon's car parks to support Christmas Lights switch on events across the district.

The lights will be going on in Droitwich Spa, Evesham and Pershore on Saturday, 27 November 2021 with free parking on the day in all Wychavon pay and display car parks from 2pm.

In Droitwich Spa there will be fairground and festive entertainment to enjoy around Victoria Square as well as music in the afternoon from The Salvation Army Band and I-Sing Choir. There will also be the chance to visit Santa in his grotto at St Richard's House from 10am to 6pm, thanks to the help of Droitwich Lions.

At the same time in Friar Street there will be a Christmas craft market, live music and festive food to tuck into from 10am until 5pm. The lights will be switched on at 4.30pm by the Mayor of Droitwich and Droitwich's very own Paralympic medallist Rebecca Redfern.

In Evesham the fun starts at midday in Market Place with children's fairground rides, stalls, food, drink and Santa's grotto for those early present requests. There will also be a Santa and Reindeer parade at 3pm with the lights going on at 5.30pm followed by a fireworks display.

Visitors to Pershore should head to St Andrews Gardens to meet Santa and his reindeer as well as enjoy carols by Pershore Town Choir and Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society.

There will be a Santa and reindeer parade down the high street at 3pm with the lights going on at 4.45pm.

The event in Droitwich Spa has been organised by the town council, in Evesham by Wychavon on behalf of Evesham Town Council and in Pershore by the town council with support from Wychavon.

Cllr Richard Morris, Executive Board Member for Economic Growth and Tourism on Wychavon District Council, said: "It's wonderful to see the traditional Christmas light switch on events return after having to suspend them last year because of the pandemic. There's something for everyone to enjoy and I'd encourage people to come and join in the fun, soak up the atmosphere and take advantage of our free parking offer. This is a great opportunity to support our local traders and I would urge people to show respect to each other and tradespeople."

To help visitors to Broadway with their Christmas shopping, parking in all Wychavon's pay and display car parks will be free from 2pm on Saturday, 11 December 2021.
