Still time to register for a proxy vote

Residents unable to get to a polling station to vote in the upcoming General Election but who still want to have their say, are being reminded they can still register for a proxy vote.

Although the deadline for applying to vote by post has now passed, those already registered can still nominate someone else to make their mark on the ballot paper for them - known as voting by proxy – if they will be unavailable on 12 December.

A proxy vote can be applied for if someone is unable to get to a polling station for any reason, is a British Citizen living overseas or a member of the Armed Forces. Anyone can be chosen to act as a proxy as long as they are eligible to vote.

The deadline to register for a proxy vote is Wednesday, 4 December at 5pm.

The deadline to register to vote in the General Election passed at midnight on Tuesday 26 November. Since the election was called, 993 people in the area have added their name to the electoral register.
