The average family of four is now throwing away up to £1000 worth of perfectly edible food every year (source: Waste Resources Action Programme), so cutting food waste at home is not only important for your pocket, it is also important for the planet as food waste is one of the biggest producers of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, when it is put in a landfill site. In the UK 4.4 million tonnes of edible food is thrown away annually, worth about £14bn worth of food (source: Love Food Hate Waste).
#FoodSavvy is a campaign designed to help you plan your meals and shopping, store your food correctly once it has been bought and use up all the food you buy.
