Keeping yourself and others safe

As we learn to live safely with coronavirus, there are actions we can all take to help reduce the risk of catching Covid-19 and passing it on to others. These actions will also help to reduce the spread of other respiratory infections, such as flu, which can spread easily and may cause serious illness in some people.

  • Get vaccinated. Vaccines are the best defence we have against Covid-19 and other respiratory infections such as flu.
  • Let fresh air in if meeting others indoors.
  • Practice good hygiene. This means washing your hands regularly, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze and cleaning your surroundings frequently.
  • Wear a face covering or a face mask. You should consider wearing a face covering or mask when you are coming into close contact with someone at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell from Covid-19 or other respiratory infections, when Covid-19 rates are high and you will be in close contact with other people, such as in crowded and enclosed spaces or when there are a lot of respiratory viruses circulating, such as in winter, and you will be in close contact with other people in crowded and enclosed spaces.

Free testing for most people in England has now ended. You can still get tested if you wish but you will have to pay for it from a private provider.

There are other actions you are now advised to take to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 rather than testing.

A small number of people will still be able to access free tests including those going into hospital for treatment or surgery and NHS and social care staff.

Help to access food and other support

The advice and guidance around self-isolation has now changed. While you should still try and stay at home as much as possible if you have symptoms of Covid-19, you can leave your home if you have no other option such as to get essentials.

We would still urge you to ask friends and family to help you get food and other essentials though in the first instance.

If you do have symptoms of Covid-19 and must leave your home then the NHS has advice on what measures you can take to reduce the risk of infecting other people, including those who may be at high risk from Covid-19.

Read what to do if you leave your home and have Covid-19 symptoms on the NHS website (opens in new window).

If you have nobody to help you then you can still get help and support from the Worcestershire County Council Here 2 Help service (opens in new window).
