Families are invited to step into a world of art and imagination this summer as Once Upon a Trail launches across Droitwich Spa from 4 July to 1 September.
Ten windows around the town will be decorated with enchanting scenes inspired by nature and local landmarks, from wildflower meadows and salt crystals to the canal, all created by artist Catt Standen.
One of the windows has been designed and created by young people from Droitwich Youth Council, working with The Crafty Café. The group took part in a workshop funded by Wychavon, giving them the chance to contribute their own ideas and artwork to the trail.

The trail booklet and map have been illustrated by Milan Topalovic, whose vibrant artwork helps bring the storybook theme to life.
Children can collect a free activity booklet from Droitwich Spa Library, the Heritage Centre and The Crafty Café. Words have been hidden in each window for young explorers to collect and use to create their own story, encouraging creativity and a love of reading.
Once they complete the trail, children can return to Droitwich Spa Library to collect a free book and a special treat. Families can also take a photo with the selfie frame and are encouraged to share their pictures using #DroitwichReads.
The project is a collaboration between Wychavon, Droitwich Spa Library and St Joseph’s First School, celebrating the National Year of Reading and brightening up the town centre for residents and visitors alike.
Cllr Richard Morris, Leader of Wychavon District Council and Executive Board Member for Economic Growth and Tourism, said: “Once Upon a Trail is a wonderful way to bring families together through art and storytelling. It’s creative, local, and full of imagination – everything we want Droitwich Spa to be known for. It also encourages people to explore more of the town, supporting our brilliant independent businesses and helping to boost footfall over the summer.”

It’s a fantastic opportunity to offer families something free, creative, and engaging throughout the school holidays, and it ties in beautifully with our Summer Reading Challenge, Read to the Beat. We can’t wait to welcome young explorers into the library.”
Marie Zarro, English Lead at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, said: “We hope to inspire children and families to follow a trail of wonder through our town, celebrating storytelling, this special National Year of Reading, and inviting everyone to enjoy Droitwich Spa, a place we are proud to call home.”
