Plans submitted for leisure centre revamp

These pictures show how the revamped Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre will look.

An application for planning permission to extend the Briar Mill centre has been submitted.

Under the proposal, a new extension will be built housing a learner pool, café and new reception area. The existing centre will remain in place but parts of it will be refurbished and modernised.

There will also be new outdoor seating, cycle storage and landscaped areas. The car park will also be extended.

Air source heat pumps will be used to provide the new extension’s energy requirements. There will also be LED lighting, water saving measures and solar panels installed.

The renovation is part of Wychavon’s multi-million-pound investment in health and wellbeing in Droitwich Spa that will also see a new pump track and skate park created within the grounds of the leisure centre. If planning permission is approved, then it is hoped work will get underway in the summer starting with the car park extension. Cllr Dan Birch, Executive Board Member for Health and Wellbeing on Wychavon District Council, said: “This is a significant step forward for an exciting project that will deliver a much-improved experience for users of Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre.” People have until 6 January 2025 to comment on the application which can be found at www.wychavon.gov.uk/droitwich-leisure.
