The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placed a duty on local authorities, County Councils and the Police to form a local Partnership and co-operate in the development and implementation of a strategy for tackling Crime and Disorder in the District Council area. This local Partnership is known as the Community Safety Partnership. In April 2003 the three statutory Partnerships in South Worcestershire (Wychavon, Worcester City and Malvern Hills) merged to form a single South Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership. New partners also had a statutory duty placed upon them to join the Partnership.
The Partnership brings together the existing work to reduce crime and improve community safety and acts as the formal body to meet the requirements of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
