Wychavon Ward Budgets

In this section
Wychavon Ward Budgets

Each Wychavon councillor has a one-off Ward Budget of £10,000 to support small-scale community projects and activities that benefit residents in their ward. The scheme is councillor-led, which means councillors decide which local projects they wish to support.

A ward is a local area represented by one or more district councillors.

Ward Budgets are funded through our £5 million We Are Wychavon Support Fund

This page explains who can receive support, what can be funded and how to contact your local councillor to ask for Ward Budget funding.

Use the sections below to find out more and learn how to ask your local councillors for support.

Purpose of the scheme

Ward Budgets are intended to provide flexible funding to enable councillors to respond to local needs and support projects that benefit residents in their ward and do not usually qualify for existing Wychavon grant schemes.

Who can receive support?

Ward Budget funding can support a range of organisations based in Wychavon or providing services to Wychavon residents, including:

  • community and voluntary groups
  • charities
  • schools and educational organisations
  • churches or faith organisations where the funding is for non-religious activities

Parish and town councils may receive funding where the project is outside their usual responsibilities, or where it clearly adds to an existing service rather than replacing normal council spending.

Ward Budgets cannot be used to support individuals or businesses directly. Information about funding and support for businesses can be found on our Funding and Support.

How much funding is available?

Each of our 43 Councillors and democracy has a one-off Ward Budget of £10,000 to allocate by 30 November 2027.

Councillors can allocate the full £10,000 to a single project or smaller amounts to multiple projects.

Ward Budgets can be used to fund projects within one ward or joint projects across two or more wards as long as the project benefits residents in all those wards.

What can be funded?

Councillors can use their discretion when allocating funds, but projects must benefit Wychavon residents and represent an appropriate use of public money.

Examples of projects that may be considered include:

  • equipment, resources or improvements for community groups, schools and voluntary organisations
  • activities that encourage and promote health and wellbeing
  • initiatives that reduce social isolation and strengthen community connections
  • activities that support children and young people
  • events or activities that bring people together
  • improvements to community facilities or public spaces
  • initiatives that enhance biodiversity
  • projects that reduce carbon emissions, encourage sustainable travel or reduce waste

Other types of projects may also be considered.

What can’t be funded?

Ward Budget funding cannot be used to support:

  • individuals or businesses directly
  • projects that are eligible for a Wychavon Resilience Grant or any other Wychavon grant schemes
  • projects that have been completed or work that has already been carried out
  • events that have already taken place
  • expenditure incurred or committed before the request is made
  • ongoing costs or commitments that would need further funding in future
  • planning application fees
  • professional fees for projects that are only being explored and are not ready to go ahead
  • political activities
  • religious activities
  • gifts, hospitality or personal benefit
  • any use that conflicts with legislation or any of Wychavon’s policies

Our Members’ Code of Conduct applies to all spending decisions. Councillors must declare any relevant interests when deciding whether to support a request.

How to request funding

Contact your councillor if you would like them to consider supporting a project or activity that is not eligible for any other Wychavon grant funding. If your project may be eligible for another Wychavon grant, you should apply to that scheme instead.

Depending on where you live, or where your project is based, your ward may be represented by one or more district councillors.

Councillors are not required to support every request and may choose to use their budget in other ways, depending on local priorities and available funds.

Before you contact your councillor

Before contacting your councillor, it may help to prepare a short summary of your project, how much funding you are asking for, who will benefit, where the activity will take place and whether you have looked at other Wychavon grant schemes.

What happens if a councillor supports your request?

If a councillor agrees to consider providing funding, they will send you a link to complete a simple digital Ward Budgets request form.

After you submit the request form, we will check the information provided. If the request meets the scheme requirements and the councillor confirms their support, we will contact you to arrangement payment.

Check how much funding is still available

You can view how much each councillor has allocated from their Ward Budget and which projects have received funding on the Ward Budgets allocations by councillor.

Funding is limited and may no longer be available if a councillor has already allocated their full Ward Budget.
